Life in Halls

Keeping your flat clean

Living in halls comes with a whole host of new responsibilities, with one of those being cleaning!

It may not be at the top of your priority list, but having a clean environment can really help with your wellbeing and productivity.

It is the responsibility of you and your flatmates to keep the shared areas in your flat clean, tidy and clear of clutter. It is down to you alone to keep your bedroom clean and tidy.

Cleaning tips

Create a cleaning rota with your flat

This will ensure cleaning responsibilities are shared evenly and fairly. This will help everyone know what they are responsible for and when. We'll provide a cleaning rota template in your kitchen to help you get started.

Clean little and often

Aim to do some cleaning every day or every few days, this will make it easier to keep on top of and will ensure it doesn't get out of hand.

Empty bins regularly

Bins are provided in flats and are separated into general and recycled wasted. Its good practice to empty regularly to avoid bad smells and potential pests.

Declutter

Only bring what you need — having too much stuff can make your room and space feel cluttered. Have organised boxes and a laundry basket so your things aren't just dumped all over your floor.

Use the right products

You don't need every cleaning product under the sun — the standard bathroom, kitchen, and surface sprays will do (but we advise against bleach and products containing bleach).

We do provide a basic cleaning pack when you arrive to help cover the first few weeks.

Make it enjoyable

Yes, it's a chore but it doesn't have to be boring. Put on your favourite playlist or podcast, or even reward yourself after with a treat — it'll be done in no time.
